Quirky festival handbag, 281

Here is a very quirky purse made for someone with lots of imagination and her
own design sense. It will be a very fun purse to have.

This delightful handbag was made for a display our weaving group entered in a
weaving conference. Our theme was Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream. I
certainly did have fun making this purse.

I made this purse from items I had on hand in my stash.

The main part of the front is a handwoven piece left over from a series of
linen towels. I stamped the linen with real flowers (cone flower and shasta
daisies) and leaves (carrot tops and dandelions). After that I machined
embroidered the leaves and flowers and added beads.

The band at the top is hand dyed silk topped with a piece of heavy lace trim
which I have had since the 80's. Then I added the hanging decorations which are
cotton lace that I dyed, some purple silk holding a glass charm I bought at a
New York City street fair. And finally on the left is a Japanese himo which is
a tie used for a kimono jacket.

The back is a piece of linen intended for tea towels. The lining is a piece of
cotton left over from making curtains. This bag is completed with a purple
zipper and a beige "marbled" plastic handle.
