This duffel bag is made from recycled sail cloth from a Flying Scot sailboat.
It includes the original "57" sail number.
The dimensions are approximately 24" x 12". The bag has 6 external pockets
built in to hold additional easy-to-reach items such as a water bottle. The
handles are made from new line. It is a continuous loop spliced in the middle
and floats in a sewn channel in the bag completely around the bottom. The
zipper is a heavy duty coil zipper that is double-stitched in place with a big
pull made from reclaimed leech line. Pictures are of the actual bags for sale.
I built the first prototype of this bag for myself about six years ago and
have used it extensively for travel. It is very durable and will probably be
handed down to my grandchildren.
Since it is made from an old sail, it may contain some of the original
stitching, as well as remains of tell-tales, batten pockets, stains and other
character of a used sail. These should be apparent in the photos. As I build
more, no two will be alike.
I compared my bag to another similar sailcloth duffel bag in a specialty shop
in Maine. Theirs was smaller, did not have external pockets, and the stitching
was not as nice, and was significantly more expensive.
